They call it Racewalking. The quick summary: at least one foot is always in contact with the ground, and your knee cannot be bent when stepping forward.

Why, you ask, do I bring this up? I was out about town jogging yesterday evening after work. In particular, I was coming down Solano just after it exits the tunnel. Chugging up the street in the opposite direction comes the infamous (at least to Ngoc and I) crazy walking lady. This woman can be seen taking up whole lanes in our neighborhood walking at a crazy clip that can be best described as pure chaos. Arms flailing, face grimacing, yelling and screaming in pain, all while walking, mind you, not running. She paused her yelling as she passed and flashed me some twisted pseudo-smile through mashed teeth, then resumed yelling and screaming as I flew by.

These neighborhood characters take me back to the days of Berkeley undergrad and fond memories of folks such as Triangle Man and Yoshua and Hate Man.

Lesson learned this weekend: there's "fondue", and then there's "fondue w/ Matt and Meredith".

We ventured into the ghetto this weekend for a fondue extravaganza w/ Weber and his lovely gf Mer. Ngoc and I came prepared for the typical Swiss style fondue, toting fresh cheese and bread from Cowgirl and Acme. Matt had bigger and bolder plans entirely.

Also on the docket for the evening was a crazy little thing called Wii. That thing was awesome.

Also worth noting, Cloverfield is real!! Along with browsing the "fake" Myspace pages of Beth, Rob, Hud, and other Cloverfield characters, this intrepid investigator and his faithful assistant uncovered the insanely unnecessary back-story for the film, including, among other things, a gigantic corporate endeavor to drill up deep-sea soda ingredients! More juicy tidbits on Wikipedia's Cloverfield discussion .

Lastly, shameless plug: holy moly, T-Rex is awesome. 3-6 happy hour EVERY DAY. Most impressive was the Bloody Mary back they bring out w/ every draft beer.

Solitude

Moss on Trees in Tilden Park, CA. I took this photo last weekend, and had to stop down to 3.2 before I could get a still image. Unfortunately, the DOF is on the shallow side, as the two trees that frame the background are out of focus near the top of the frame.
